If you have cold sores and you’re anything like me, then you need to find out how do you get rid of a cold sore quickly so that you can [...]

If you have cold sores and you’re anything like me, then you need to find out how do you get rid of a cold sore quickly so that you can get rid of the pain as well as the discomfort that comes with it. Not to mention the embarrassment of other people seeing them! There’s nothing worse that worrying about your cold sores being the only thing people see when they look at you because the sores are on your mouth and lips. You get tired of getting stares.

Luckily there are things that you can do to get them under control naturally and quickly. The cold sores are susceptible to infections and spreading, so it is crucial that they are kept clean at all times. This will minimize the risk of infection and one of the best ways is to clean them using soap that is anti bacterial, hot water and a cloth that is clean and soft. Make sure that you clean it thoroughly and gentle, to prevent further distress to the cold sores.

There are many treatments that can be used, from over the counter medicines to prescription medicines. However, petroleum jelly has also been proven to be an effective treatment for cold sores. While the virus will be in your body forever, the petroleum jelly can prevent outbreaks and ensure that the area remains clean. When applied to the cold sores the jelly ensures that the area is kept free of dirty particles as well as germs that can cause an infection. The petroleum jelly acts as a shield that is effective in making sure that healing time is not extended from more infections or complications. The important fact to remember is that the cold sores have to be thoroughly cleaned before this is applied, to ensure that dirt and other things are not trapped inside the cold sores.

When the cold sore is exposed to hot temperatures, it is possible to get infected quite easily. To answer the question of how do you get rid of a cold sore quickly, you have to put some ice on the sold sores. The virus does not thrive in the cold, and therefore will not want to be exposed to it. This is good news for you, because it means when you put ice on your cold sores their size may be reduced and it will prevent further outbreak.

Another effective treatment is using alcohol on the area that is affected. Because the sore is open a bit, this may sting you a little, but the germs will be prevented from becoming active. For those who do not want to use the alcohol because you fear the stinging sensation, they have the option of using aloe vera. Not just any kind of aloe vera, but the freshest one that you can find. In its purest form, you have to get it from the plant if you can, as it is extremely effective.

These are just some remedies for dealing with a cold sore effectively and quickly. Bear in mind that other treatments will work better for you than others and those are the ones that you should be focusing on. Bottom line, there are things you can do to help you get rid of a cold sore quickly. If you’re looking for additional information on how to cure your cold sores, I recommend Cold Sore Free Forever, as the tips and tricks it covers helped me discover how to get rid of my cold sores permanently.
Before understanding how to get rid of your cold sores fast, it’s important to understand what causes these cold sores in the first place. At one time are another over [...]

Before understanding how to get rid of your cold sores fast, it’s important to understand what causes these cold sores in the first place. At one time are another over the period of our lives, most of us have or will suffer from a cold sore. These irritating and unattractive cold sores are caused by the virus herpes simplex and are also known as fever blisters. This kind of virus is deemed to be inactive until activated by such things as stress, being exposed to sunlight for a long period of time, anxiety, and catching a cold among others. Normally, a cold sore lasts for a period ranging from one to two weeks. The kind of discomfort and level of visibility brought about by these cold sores warrants sufferers to look for a quick cure. You’ll know when you have a cold sore, because the mouth is characterized with blisters that tend to crack when you speak, eat or rub the soars. It’s also good to note that eating or drinking something sugary or salty can cause an increase in discomfort. The painful sores commonly appear not only on the lips but on the face as well as other parts of the body.

Unfortunately, there is no absolute cure for cold sores as the virus in most cases stay in human body for the rest of our lives. But don’t let this discourage you because there is hope! The rate at which cold sores hear varies from person to person, but here are some tips that I’ve learned along the way to always make sure your cold sores are disappearing and the maximum possible rate. One way to quickly get rid of it is to use a cold compress an apply it on the affected area. This helps ease the pain as well as the swelling. Additionally maintaining high standards of cleanness, ensuring that the affected area is dry and frequent application of a petroleum jelly will help reduce the rate at which the affected region cracks. Rinsing the mouth with baking soda or salt will also help. Similarly it has been proven that there are certain precautions when taken will play a major role in curbing the problem; for instance, consuming enough liquid to avoid dehydration, adopting effective stress management techniques, avoiding situations that cause anxiety, eating a well balanced diet and avoiding excessive exposure to sunlight. Lastly it is important to use painkillers to ease pain, this an be obtained over the counter.

More information on how to get rid of cold sores fast can be found in my previous article Cold Sore Treatments That Work Fast.

When you’ve got a cold sore, the only thing you can think about is finding cold sore treatments that work fast. Besides being painful, the embarrassment of having it out there for everyone to see makes life pretty terrible while you’ve got one. And if you get them frequently like I used to, they can be a huge problem in your life.

One of the toughest things with fighting cold sores is even knowing where to start. There’s a ton of advice out there, and many prescription, over the counter, and even natural treatments out there. But picking one to rely on can be kind of overwhelming, especially when you’re desperate to get rid of that cold sore quickly!

Having suffered from cold sores most of my life, going all the way back to childhood, I tried everything to cure them quickly and keep them away. I’ve had a prescription for acyclovir (worked OK), tried Abreva (didn’t work for me at all), taken Lysine (pretty hit or miss) and tried many of the natural remedies people swear by, all to no avail.

FINALLY, after countless hours of research online, I decided to try a guide I’d seen talked about in forums and in advice groups, called Cold Sore Free Forever. I’ll admit that the name set off some alarm bells for me since I know there’s currently no way to get rid of the herpes virus for good. I figured it was some kind of a scam, but I thought, “Well, it’s got a 60-day refund policy, so what do I have to lose?” Almost two years later, I am SO glad I decided to give it a try! I’ve been cold sore free ever since.

Since you’re probably wondering what the author of this book could possibly reveal that’s so helpful compared to other treatments, I’ll give you a bit of a spoiler without giving too much away. The power of this guide is that it teaches you easy changes you can make to your diet that will kill cold sores’ ability to live and thrive in your system, and will even cure a cold sore you have now within just a few days. It seems too good to be true, but the science behind it really does work.

Having gone from getting cold sores multiple times a year to not having had one since I got this program nearly two years ago, I can promise you that it’s well worth getting and trying. Compared to how much medicines cost, and how horrible dealing with cold sores is, the price of One Minute Herpes Cure is incredibly cheap!

As I mentioned before, it’s got a 60-day money-back guarantee, so you can always get it and try it out- if it doesn’t work for you, no problem, you just get your money back. Since it’s a downloadable guide there’s not even anything to ship back.

If you dread the thought of getting another cold sore or are desperate to find a cold sore treatment that works fast, PLEASE do yourself a favor and check out Cold Sore Free Forever now. I promise, you won’t regret it.

What is Lysine and Why Can it Help Cure Cold Sores?

Lysine is commonly known as a natural and effective way to fight cold sores. In fact, it’s the amino acids in Lysine that can help attack the herpes virus that causes those pesky cold sores.

Natural Cold Sore Cure

There are two amino acids that have been proven to significantly affect cold sores. They’re called lysine and arginine. Arginine is the “bad” amino acid that cold sores require as food, to grow, develop and replicate and the cause of the cold sore symptoms. Lysine on the other hand, is the “good” amino acid that we’re going to talk more about. Lysine has a unique ability to actually repress Arginine, thus cutting off your cold sore’s essential food source.

Where Do I Find Lysine?

The good news is, lysine is a natural way to cure cold sores and can be consumed as part of a healthy diet. Foods with ample amounts of lysine include vegetables, some meats (fish and chicken), cheese, milk and beans. Lysine in small doses, however, can be ineffective in treating cold sores. It’s important to consume 1250 mg of lysine per day for significant results.

Foods to Avoid (that contain Arginine) to Prevent Cold Sore Outbreaks

While you’re increasing your lysine intake levels, it’s also important to make sure you’re reducing your arginine levels (or at the very least not increasing them). Foods to avoid that are high in arginine include nuts, chocolate, wheat and oats.

Lysine Supplements

Another way to make sure you’re getting sufficient amounts of lysine to prevent and cure cold sores is to take a lysine supplement. When shopping around for a lysine supplement, I recommend choosing one that has pure, natural lysine rather than synthetic. A supplement that also includes Vitamin C, Zinc and Bioflavonoids can work together to prevent and cure cold sore outbreaks. Also, Vitamin C and Zinc contain healing properties, while Bioflavonoids are natural immune boosters.

Causes of Cold Sores

Cold sores are caused by the herpes simplex virus type 1. The virus is passed from person to person by coming into contact with an active cold sore. Herpes simplex virus 1 is highly contagious and once you have contracted it, it will stay in your system forever. As a result, there is no “cure” however, there are many successful prevention methods as well as treatments to help a cold sore heal faster once you experience an outbreak.

Diagnosing Your Cold Sores

Before you can begin to prevent and heal cold sores more quickly, you must first determine that what you are experiencing is actually a cold sore. Many people confuse cold sores with canker sores, but the truth is, the two are quite different and must be handled in different ways. Cold sores can be identified as red blisters on or near the mouth and lips (and sometimes on the nose) that often at the height of the outbreak contain puss, and eventually may ooze and then scab before they heal and disappear. With the onset of a cold sore outbreak you will often experience itching and burning sensations. You will then notice a cold sore (also referred to as a fever blister) develop, and you can expect it to last, under normal conditions, for 1-2 weeks.

Tips for Getting Rid of Cold Sores Forever

Avoid Contact With Your Cold Sores

A first step to getting rid of cold sores forever is to avoid contact with them during an outbreak. By avoiding touching, itching or picking at your cold sores, you will be preventing further irritation, thus helping them heal faster on their own. Additionally, avoiding contact with them, as difficult as it may be, will help keep them from spreading to other parts of your face as well.

Keep Your Cold Sores Clean

By keeping your cold sore clean you can keep the infection to a minimum and help prevent the cold sore from spreading. Do so with hot water and a mild soap, and avoid scrubbing too hard or too rapidly which may cause further irritation to the cold sore.

Prevent Cold Sores to Avoid Outbreaks!

The most effective way to get rid of cold sores forever is to avoid outbreaks all together! Each person has their own, unique triggers, however, avoiding stress, preventing exposure to very hot, cold, dry, or wet climates, and making sure your lips, mouth and skin are well moisturized, protected, and healthy are great steps toward eliminating cold sores for life. For the best information on how to get rid of cold sores forever, check out the article Cold Sore Free Forever!

When it comes to researching cold sore remedies that work, there’s a lot of information out there online. I should know- I’ve spent years reading, cataloguing and testing people’s suggestions, from doctors to naturopaths to grandmas with home remedies they’ve developed over the years.

In general, cold sore remedies fall into three broad categories: prescription treatments, over the counter medications, and natural remedies. I’ll dive into each category of treatment and discuss which methods within each have been shown to work well, either for me or for many other people.

Cold Sore Prescription Medicines That Work

There are a couple of different options for prescription medications that can be used to treat cold sores. First up are topical medicines like Zovirax, which you can apply to the herpes outbreak to speed up the healing process and in some cases even prevent it from developing fully.

The other option is oral antiviral medicines like acyclovir, valacyclover or famciclovir. These can be taken either after an outbreak has occurred to try to speed up healing, or in the case of famciclovir, can be taken in between outbreaks to prevent them. Apparently famciclovir is especially effective if you get outbreaks quite frequently. If yours are infrequent, it might not be worth taking it all the time.

Personally speaking, I’ve used Zovirax for years and have always found it be very effective. If I can apply it as soon as I start to feel a cold sore coming on, it cuts days off the healing time, or sometimes can keep the sore from ever showing up or keep it to a small, relatively painless spot. The only downside to Zovirax is that it requires a prescription (at least in the USA). However, in addition to your doctor, your dentist can also prescribe it, and I’ve had dentists that are willing to prescribe it when I’ve mentioned it at a regular checkup or appointment.

Over the Counter Treatments That Work

The most popular over the counter (OTC) treatment for cold sores is Abreva, but there are several other options that have been around for quite a while and supposedly work pretty well. These are Campho-Phenique, Carmex, and Herpecin L.

Personally, I tried Abreva a couple of times when I had outbreaks and wasn’t impressed with the results. Compared to something like Zovirax, it didn’t seem to lessen the pain or “kill off” the cold sore and get to the part when it has scabbed over and is healing nicely. After a couple of tries I gave up on it, partially because it’s fairly expensive.

I’ve seen quite a few people online swear by putting Carmex, Campho-Phenique, or Herpecin L on their cold sores. From what I’ve seen it sounds like these are mostly good at alleviating some of the pain and burning, and keeping the sore from spreading much, but I haven’t seen much evidence that they speed up the healing process. However, dealing with the pain and keeping the sore a manageable size are both very beneficial things, so these treatments are worth trying.

One other interesting possibility that I haven’t tried myself but that a lot of people like is a styptic pencil. These are usually used to heal cuts when shaving, but the idea when using them on cold sores is that they’re designed to shrink blood vessels, and since these feed the cold sore itself, shrinking the vessels should cut off supply to the sore. Apparently applying it can be fairly painful, but many people swear that it works wonders.

Natural Cold Sore Remedies That Work

There are literally dozens of recommendations I’ve found for treating cold sores naturally, ranging from Lysine to vinegar to ear wax (yes, really). I won’t go into too much detail on these cures in this articles since I’ve already covered them in a different article about how to get rid of cold sores naturally, but a couple of the most promising natural treatments include rubbing a garlic clove gently on the sore, and eating licorice.

I cover both those cures in more detail in that article, but I wanted to mention an extremely helpful guide that can help you if you suffer from cold sores regularly. It’s called Cold Sore Free Forever, and what sets it apart from most of the natural cures I’ve run across is that it teaches you simple ways you can balance your body’s chemistry to keep cold sore outbreaks from happening at all, which is fantastic since you can never totally rid yourself of the virus.

If you’ve tried everything and still can’t get rid of your cold sores, I highly recommend checking it out. This guide has been a huge help to me, and I think it can be for you too. One great thing is that I’ve talked several times with the author, Derek Shepton, and got him to give my readers a $10 discount if they buy through my link! Believe me, getting this guide will be the investment you ever making in fighting your cold sores.

You will discover just as I did that Cold Sore Free Forever is by far one of the best cold sore cure resources, which is why I recommend it to cold sore sufferers who frequently come to me for advice.

There are many cold sore medications available to treat a cold sore once it has developed, but if you’re not working toward preventing cold sores from developing in the first place, your cold sores will come back again and again. Recurring cold sore outbreaks will likely cause you to purchase expensive cold sore medications to treat them, rather than preventing an outbreak all together. That’s where Cold Sore Free Forever is different.

Cold Sore Free Forever addresses the underlying problems that cause cold sore outbreaks and teaches you how to take control over your cold sore virus. It also explains how to balance your body chemistry in a way that prevents cold sores from developing at all! In this guide you will learn how to turn your body into a cold sore fighting machine by creating a hostile environment where cold sores cannot thrive. You can learn, just as I did how to destroy your cold sores for life.

The best part of Cold Sore Free Forever is that it unveils secret remedies I haven’t seen anywhere else. In this guide you’ll discover how the foods you eat may be poisoning you and creating an environment for cold sores to thrive. Another great thing is that you get the digital version of the guide as soon as you buy, so you can start getting rid of your cold sore within minutes! Click here to take the first step in becoming Cold Sore Free Forever.

If you’re like most people who suffer from cold sores, you probably would love to find a natural way to get rid of them and keep them away. Prescriptions and over the counter creams can be expensive or hard to get on short notice, and may only treat symptoms instead of the cause.

The good news is that there are lots of options you can try to get rid of your cold sores naturally. The less good news is that there are so many options it can be tough to know which will work for you, and really which of them work at all. Fortunately I’ve spent a lot of time exploring the available options, and I’ll share with you what I’ve learned about what works. Obviously any information on here is provided only for informational purposes, and should be tried at your own risk.

Topical Treatments

In my research, I came across many suggestions from people on topical treatments that helped lessen the pain and speed up the healing of their cold sores. Here’s a list of some common options that you can try:

Cold compress

Warm compress

Tea tree oil

Zinc

Milk

Vitamin E oil

Hydrogen Peroxide

Rubbing a garlic clove on the cold sore

Urine (yes really, though I’m not sure I’d be brave enough to try this one!)

Aloe vera

Camphophenique

White vinegar 2-3 times per day

Supplements

In addition to topical treatments, you can try internal remedies that may help shorten the duration of the cold sore or prevent it from getting really bad. Here are some common options:

Lysine, especially L-Lysine. This one always seemed to help my cold sores if I took a few pills immediately upon starting to notice the tingling feeling. A few times the cold sore never ended up developing if I was fast enough in taking this.

Vitamins C, E, and B-12

Drinking one tsp of baking soda dissolved in water

Herpecin L

Licorice- This one is an interesting one. Some studies have shown that an ingredient in licorice called glycyrrhizic acid is extremely good at stopping the cold sore virus. You can try eating some real licorice, but pay attention to what you buy, as most licorice candy in stores isn’t actually true licorice but is just flavored to taste like it. Check the ingredients list for “licorice mass.” If it’s there, that’s real licorice. Don’t overdo it on the licorice though; in too large an amount it can cause serious side effects.

The Natural Product That Worked for Me

Although some of the natural products I’ve mentioned in this article can be good for relieving pain and in some cases shortening the life of a cold sore, nothing ever really did the trick for me when it came to preventing cold sores and getting rid of them quickly and completely.

Fortunately, in my research I happened to discover a guide called Cold Sore Free Forever. It’s written by a long-time cold sore sufferer named Derek Shepton who developed a totally unique and natural system for getting rid of cold sores fast and keeping them from coming back.

Since I was desperate to finally get over my cold sore problem, I bought the guide and am so glad I did! I was able to knock out the cold sore I had much quicker than usual, and now it’s been well over a year and I still haven’t had any outbreaks. Since I had them frequently before then, this has been a huge improvement.

I can tell you that Derek’s system is totally unique, and even though it’s totally natural, the ingredients he recommends weren’t ones I ran across anywhere else in all of my research. I have to admit, I thought I had seen it all in my research, but so far Derek’s system has worked wonders for me.

If you’re really eager to get rid of your cold sores, I highly recommend you check it out now!

Many people do not know exactly when or how they contracted Herpes Simplex Virus 1, so at the first outbreak, they may not know which symptoms to look for that indicate a cold sore is coming on.

Cold sores are caused by Herpes Simplex Virus 1, and are also referred to as fever blisters. They first appear 3 to 10 days after exposure and can last for up to 3 weeks. The virus then remains in the body forever, and repeated outbreaks are triggered by several factors.

If you experience cold sores as a result of the Herpes Simplex Virus 1 (HSV-1), you are not alone, as the virus affects 90% of the word’s population! The good news is, once you’ve identified a cold sore, you can put yourself on the right track to curing it, and make sure you don’t experience outbreaks again.

What is the herpes cold sore virus?

Just to be clear, there are two common forms of the herpes virus. Herpes Simplex Virus Type 1 is the strain that is typically responsible for causing cold sores, while Herpes Simplex Virus Type 2 is typically responsible for genital herpes.

It is, however, important to note that either type of the herpes virus can cause sores in the facial area or on the genitals. You must be very careful to avoid touching your sores once you experience an outbreak to prevent spreading them to the other sensitive areas of your body. For the purpose of addressing cold sores on the face, we will focus on Herpes Simplex Virus Type 1.

Unfortunately, once you have contracted the herpes virus, there is no way to remove it from your system as it exists in the nerve cells whether or not an active cold sore is present. The good news is outbreaks are preventable! By protecting the areas of your face (most commonly the lips) where cold sores tend to appear, you can avoid outbreaks altogether so it will be as if you don’t even have the virus.

Herpes cold sore symptoms

The early symptoms of herpes cold sores, also referred to as the prodrome, will occur before a cold sore occurs and is a good indication that a cold sore will be coming on. These early symptoms can include a burning, tingling, and/or itching feeling. These sensations will then be followed by a formation of a blister or cluster of small blisters at the site of infection.

At the onset of a cold sore, some people will experience flu-like symptoms and a fever, although the initial outbreak is typically worse than subsequent outbreaks. As the blister develops you will notice it is filled with fluid, and will eventually begin to weep or ooze. After this stage, the herpes cold sore will crust over and form a scab.

It’s important to understand that the cold sore may still be contagious at this point. The final step in the herpes cold sore life cycle is the healing phase. Once the cold sore crusts over and the scab falls off, the once-infected area will be replaced by new, healthy skin.

Preventing herpes cold sores

For some people, exposure to the sun, getting sick, or extreme stress can cause an outbreak. For others, it’s simply a matter of keeping your lips moisturized and protected from dryness and damage. The lips are a very sensitive part of the body, making them more susceptible to herpes cold sore outbreaks. By avoiding sun, staying healthy, and by using lip balm to prevent from cuts, cracks, and dryness, many herpes cold sore sufferers can successfully avoid the majority of outbreaks.

Have you had cold sores on your lips in the past, or do you think you might be
getting one? Well you’re not alone. In fact, up to 90 percent of all Americans have
the cold sore virus and 55 million have the recurring symptoms known as cold sores.

The lips are the most common place for cold sores to appear, but they can
occasionally occur on the nostrils, chin, or fingers. What, you may ask, are the
causes of cold sores on lips? Why do they develop in such an embarrassing and
obvious place?

The reason is that the virus that causes cold sores lives in the nerve
cells of the face. The lips are also one of the most sensitive parts of the body,
making them very vulnerable to cold sore outbreaks. Unlike our skin, our lips
do not have hair, oil, or sweat glands to protect them from dryness or irritation.
Therefore, they are more susceptible to trauma, putting them at high risk for cold
sore outbreaks.

Causes of cold sores

Cold sores on lips are caused by the cold sore virus that is contracted by coming
into contact with a cold sore on another person while they’re having a breakout.
Cold sores are contagious! After a person has contracted the cold sore virus, it may
remain dormant for many years without the person seeing any signs or symptoms.
There are, however, certain factors (that can be prevented!) that may trigger the
virus and result in developing the cold sore blisters.

Some factors that may lead to a cold sore breakout include dry and injured lips,
stress, menstruation, insomnia or sleep disorders, too much exposure to the UV rays
of the sun, tooth extraction, digestive disorders, common cold, and influenza (flu),
are the main factors responsible for sudden cold sore outbreaks.

Preventing cold sores on lips

To avoid outbreak of cold sores on your lips, try to avoid the factors listed above
when possible. Keep your lips from getting too dry and injured by using chap stick
or lip balm, avoid stress, be sure to get enough sleep every day, avoid exposure
to sun or wear sunscreen, and stay healthy by avoiding germs, sick people, and
remembering to keep your hands away from your face and wash them frequently.

Bottom line, protect your lips because when your lips are dry or injured, they are
more susceptible to embarrassing cold sore outbreaks!
